Dr. Blanche Hughes Biography

Dr. Blanche Hughes is currently in her 18th year as the Vice President for Student Affairs at Colorado State University.  In this role, she serves on President Amy Parson’s leadership team and oversees a Division that collaborates with other units in the University community to inspire and empower students to be active learners inside and outside the classroom, successful graduates, and engaged global citizens. The Division of Student Affairs supports student success through an array of services and resources including housing, dining, student orientation, recreation, student government, student organizations, and legal, career, transition, health, well-being, basic needs, and crisis services.

In addition to her role as Vice President, Dr. Hughes serves as a faculty member and advisor in the Student Affairs in Higher Education graduate program and occasionally teaches undergraduate courses..

Before becoming Vice President, Dr. Hughes spent six years as the Assistant and then Associate Vice President for Student Affairs, eleven years as the Director of Black Student Services at Colorado State University, and also served as a professor in the Sociology Department at Pikes Peak Community College for two years, one of those years as Chair of the Department.

Dr. Hughes received her Bachelor’s degree from Earlham College, a Master’s of Education degree in Student Affairs, and a Doctorate degree in Sociology from Colorado State University.

Dr. Hughes is married to Wayne Hughes and they have four children (two are alums of CSU) and five granddaughters.
